Water, being a vital resource, governs almost all the aspects of human life, style and growth. More or less all the important industries have flourished in and around the vicinity of water resources. Tourism is one such flourishing industry, which needs proper assessment and management of water resources of the concerned area, for its sustenance and expansion. This paper aims to study the significance of watershed management in developing the tourism and hospitality business in India, with special emphasis on Khajuraho town of Madhya Pradesh state. Though a world heritage site, this famous town is facing acute water crisis due to improper management and over-exploitation of the available water resources. The paper briefly describes the role of public participation in producing a better developed and managed watershed, having the ability to protract existing tourism and recreation activities and to enhance the potential value of the site for tourism. The methodology involves a survey questionnaire, including people of all age groups, local residents, hoteliers, eatery runners, government employees and students. The process takes into account; systems analysis for best options, farming systems research, water quality conditions, present water availability, technical assistance from government or non-government bodies and the suggestions for designing and implementation of a science based plan in the area. The variation in results show how people disagree about the most suitable ways for proper management of watershed, in order to have better tourism and hospitality opportunities. It has been found that the continuously declining water quality and quantity and ecological deterioration, is leading to deterioration of tourism and hospitality in Khajuraho, alarming the M.P. tourism officials, government authorities and local residents. There is thus an urgent need to tackle difficulties of environmental alterations through joint efforts of local residents and government.

We studied the relationships among diatom biodiversity, transparent exopolymeric particles (TEP) and water quality at the confluences of four tributaries of River Ganga (Yamuna, Assi, Varuna and Gomti)during low flow. Diatom abundance changed with concurrent shifts in water chemistry with dominance–diversity curves markedly skewed from a log-normal pattern. Canonical correspondence analysis segregated chloride-loving and calcifilous species from N- and P-favoured taxa. Despite pollution-induced reduction of diatom diversity, TEP production continued to rise plausibly due to dominance transference of TEP producers. However, with further increase in nutrient pollution, TEP declined. Since TEP enhances sedimentation removal of carbon, nutrients and heavy metals, the present study confirms one of the fundamental mechanisms that underline the self-purification capacity of River Ganga and has relevance from a biodiversity/river conservation perspective. Keywords

The objective of the present study was to study the induced breeding technique and embryonic development of Heteropneustes fossilis (Bloch, 1794). The female brooders were injected intramuscularly with hCGhormone (6.95 IU/g dose of body mas). After 12±2 h of latency period, the fertilized eggs were obtained by artificial insemination. The fertilized eggs were demersal, non-adhesive, spherical, brownish green in colour with red cap or blastidosc. The average diameter of the fertilized eggs was 1.5±0.5mm. The different stages of embryonic development were captured under bright field microscope (Olympus Cx 41) using micro publisher 3.3 RTV camera (Qimaging, BC, Canada). The mean fertilization and hatching rate was 98.7±0.5 % and 98.3±2.5 %, respectively. The complete yolk was consumed within 3 days after hatching. The hatching period was 23-24 hr. The newly hatched larvae were 3.0±0.2 mm in length. These observations showed that catfish can be bred successfully and this study would help in managing the induced breeding programmes of H. fossilis. Keywords

The objective of the present study was to investigate the behavioural and morphological changes and acute toxicity of Hilban(R) in freshwater catfish, Heteropneustes fossilis. This study was conducted by exposing the fish to different concentrations of chlorpyrifos (0.5 to 150μl/L) for 96 h along with control groups. The data were subjected to get LC50 by probit analysis. The LC50 values for chlorpyrifos for 24, 48, 72 and 96 h were 51.98, 18.91, 7.47 and 4.61μl/L, respectively. Fish exposed to higher concentration showed uncoordinated alterations in behavioural responses, especially erratic and jerky swimming, frequent surfacing and ingulping, mucus secretion, an increase in opercular movement and copious secretion of mucus all over the body. It is concluded that Hilban(R) is highly toxic to catfish and severely affect their physiology and behaviour. Keywords

Study was conducted to examine the effects of two sources of water on the growth of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) at Maharashtra in Jalgaon district. The sources of irrigation water were: treated wastewater and fresh water. The quality of these sources was monitored for a period of three months (2017). Samples from both of the source taken were sent to the laboratory for analysis. Each water source was used to irrigate tomatoes planted in the field using split plot design (SPD) as the experimental design for a period of three month. The treatments were two (treated wastewater and fresh water) with three replications. During the growing period, soil fertility status was monitored for a period of three months. During this period, plant height, number of flowers and fruits were determined. Here results shows that treated wastewater was also used for irrigation purpose and get 01-05 per cent less yield as compared to fresh water yield. So the wastewater with appropriate plant protection measures was found suitable for irrigation of tomato crop. Keywords

Alternative safe ingredients are being increasingly promoted for resilient and sustainable activity, as they are in demand to replace drugs in aqua feed. Curcumin is a multifunction feed additive having immunostimulant and growth-promoting properties. In the present study, curcumin was synthesized and its potency was tested in the water on fish immunity and vital tissue anatomy. Adult Heteropneustes fossilis was treated for a short period (1, 5 days) to a long period (21 days) alone, further, its post-treatment clearance effect (one week without curcumin after 21 days treatment) was studied. The results showed that a mild dose of curcumin (10 μg/mL) in the medium was able to improve fish health (gill, liver, kidney histotexture) and immunity (direct and indirect haematology parameters) within a short duration and progressed further in a duration-dependent manner. Among haematological indices, some of them increased while others decreased significantly after curcumin treatment. Among immunity parameters white blood corpuscles, myeloperoxidase activity increased and nitroblue tetrazolium registered a decrease significantly, but the one-week post-treatment effect suggested poor maintenance of curcumin induced positive response towards health and immunity. Overall, the addition of curcumin (10 μg/mL) improved the growth performance and health of Heteropneustes fossilis. Keywords
